TWO MEN TRAPPED IN WOMEN'S BODIES - Opens Saturday, Sept. 20th

WANZIEand DOUG reprise their roles as two aging female hippie activists who reminisce about the age of Aquarius over heavily spiked soft drinks while sitting at their favorite table in a local diner. The two actors first appear on stage as male characters (each playing the son of their respective female character) then, as the story progresses, Wanzie & Doug slowly transform into their maternal counterparts, on stage, in full view of the audience.

TWO MEN TRAPPED IN WOMEN’S BODIES was first presented ten years ago at the Orlando International Fringe Theater Festival where the show won the Orlando Weekly-sponsored People’s Choice Award for BEST SHOW, and for which Wanzie garnered the People Choice Award for FAVORITE ACTOR in 1998. The show was remounted at the Footlight Theater a few years later by Fall River Productions.

TWO MEN TRAPPED draws its inspiration from the recently deceased local “character” known to many Central Floridians as “Mare The Maid”.  Marylyn Corwin-Gordon, who passed away on July 28, 2008, at the age of 63, was the real life hippie upon whom the female characters in the play are based. Wanzie freely admits “some of the funniest lines in the show are direct quotes from Mare that I would scribble down on napkins and matchbook covers so I wouldn’t forget these pearls once the effects of herbage wore off and I was ready to write”

The production team made the decision to remount
TWO MEN TRAPPED as a dedicated tribute to Wanzie’s dear friend, and housemate of nearly 6-years. without even realizing it would indeed be the 10-year anniversary of the original production. TWO MEN TRAPPED will be an ongoing tribute to “Mare The Maid” leading up to a memorial/life party to honor the beloved hippie friend of many in the Orlando theater community which is being planned to coincide with her date of birth - October 21, 1944.

In the tradition of most Wanzie scripts,
TWO MEN TRAPPED is a face-paced comedy, which veers into serious subject matter without warning, but ends on a happy note. The play is set in 1998 Orlando and the script is full of local references as well as many punch lines lampooning various mainstream Orlando notables. Critically acclaimed Director and longtime Wanzie Presents collaborator– Kenny (Odd Ducks, Hedwig & The Angry Inch, Color Me Becky, The Lion Queen, When Pigs Fly) Howard will direct.

“the fire-breathing new drama by Stephen Adly Guirgis”
NY Times

The Empty Spaces Theatre Co., (an ongoing collaboration between John DiDonna, Seth Kubersky, Anna DeMers and Kevin G Becker) and Mt. Dora’s Warren Acting Company (Joel and Amanda Warren) are proud to present this “shocking, shattering, stunningly well-written” (– The Daily Telegraph) work by New York playwright and LAByrinth Theatre Company member Stephen Adly Guirgis.

Set in the urban landscape of the New York Correctional system and Riker’s Island, Guirgis mixes searing and visceral drama with dark comedy, as he explores timeless yet contemporary themes of guilt and innocence, judgment and desperation, ... and the true nature of redemption – the path of which is not always as clean and clear as we would hope.

Jesus Hopped the A Train - originally produced by New York’s LAByrinth Theatre Company and  directed by acclaimed actor Philip Seymour Hoffman - won the Edinburgh Fringe First Award, the Detroit Free Press Play of the year, and was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award as Best New Play.

The production features well known Central Florida actor Dennis Neal as Lucius Jenkins, a drug addicted “god-fearing man” awaiting extradition and death in Florida for crimes so heinous that they are numbing; Roger Floyd as Angel Cruz, a man who perhaps has done the most loving and heroic thing, in all the wrong ways; Alexis Jackson as Mary Jane Hanrahan, the public defender caught between doing the right thing, or doing the right thing; Lawrence Benjamin as D’Amico, a former prison guard who is guilty of one thing – liking Lucius Jenkins: and Jeremy Wood as Valdez, a guard best described as “Man ain’t nothing but a test of faith”.  The work is directed in Empty Spaces’ collaborative form by John DiDonna, with co-direction by Seth Kubersky and Joel Warren.

WELL ... WELL ... WELL ... GUESS WHO'S COMING BACK TO ORLANDO?

We are pleased to announce that Actor/Comedian Leslie Jordan has agreed to donate 50% of the profits from both of his upcoming performances of MY TRIP DOWN THE PINK CARPET to the fund that has been set up to create a “safe haven” city-approved permanent meeting space for THE ORLANDO YOUTH ALLIANCE at THE CENTER – Orlando’s long-established GLBT community center.

This is amazing news!  Initially, Leslie had agreed to donate the profits from the first night, but this created a bit of a conflict for fans as to which night that they wanted to attend.  In order to give more folks an opportunity to contribute to this great cause, Jordan make the change to accommodate both performances.

When you see Leslie’s autobiographical show you will realize why the safeguarding and mentoring of GLBT youth is a cause so close to his heart. Also, it’s just hard to say “no” to Susan Unger once she gets her mind set on something and she had decided months ago that she would get Mr. Jordan to do something for this cause which she has been rock solid behind from the get go.

MY TRIP DOWN THE PINK CARPET is fantastic and Leslie Jordan is a spitfire laugh riot in it. We have heard from so many people who have already seen the show who intend to see it again. If you missed it in July, you owe it to yourself to see it in November.

Now is your chance to catch the return engagement to Central Florida.  WANZIE Presents and the Parliament House, in association with Reaction Productions, are thrilled to bring the Emmy-Award-winning performer back to the Footlight Theatre for two performances of his critically acclaimed and over-the-top, quasi-autobiographical MY TRIP DOWN THE PINK CARPET.  The veteran of stage, screen, and television has masterfully woven together his personal stories from his performance experiences and brings them back to life right in front of the audience.  While Jordan's tour has continued to wow audiences in 1500-2500 seat venues, you can have the unique experience of practically being on-stage with his performer as he relives some of the more monumental moments of his life.

Jordan became a fan favorite for his reoccurring role  on TV's Will & Grace of flamboyant and snippy Beverly Leslie, country-club-nemesis of Karen Walker.  The actor earned an Emmy for his work on the television series.  In the film Sordid Lives, Jordan brought to life the wacky and wonderful character Brother Boy, which he is currently reviving on TV's LOGO network in the series of the same name.  If you loved him either or both of these roles than you simply cannot miss this evening of pure stage hysterics.

Two shows are slated for the Footlight Theater: Wed., Nov. 19th and Thur., Nov. 20th.  We are pleased to announce that this show will utilize the new Select-A-Seat feature, which allows you to specify exactly where you'd like to sit for the performance. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Mon., Sept. 15th.  However, as a WANZeGRAM subscriber, you have an opportunity to get in early on the action.  Tickets are now available exclusively to you for both performances of Leslie Jordan's MY TRIP DOWN THE PINK CARPET:

All seats are $43.00 and are reserved!
