Comedy,
Drama, Lip-sync & Bitchiness
culminate in a most unusual Bittersweet Comedy
from the pen of playwright Michael Wanzie
Writer/Producer/Actor
- Michael Wanzie (In association with the Parliament
House Entertainment Complex and director/producer
Kenny Howard) will kick off the new year by presenting
another Wanzie-World Premiere Production at the Footlight
Theater: Ladies of Eola Heights opens January 15th,
2005 at the Parliament House-410 N. Orange Blossom
Trail.
This
latest comedic romp by playwright Michael Wanzie is
set in the Downtown Orlando neighborhood of Eola Heights.
The show will be staged by accomplished Orlando director,
Kenny (Odd Ducks, Two Men Trapped in Womens
Bodies, Carolina Moon, Hedwig and the
Angry Inch, A Trailer Trash Christmas)
Howard.
Wanzie,
Doug and Wooten portray long-suffering (and long-separated)
sisters who reunite to plan their Daddys
funeral. In a unique twist, Sam (Headdress Ball, Miss
Sammys Anything Goes, Beach Ball, Orlando
Weekly Entertainer of the Year, and multi-time winner
of the Watermark Wave Award) Singhaus - the creator
of Orlandos iconoclastic Miss Sammy
- is woven into the play as a Miss Sammy-type
persona who intermittently performs novelty lip-sync
routines as part of the action which drives the plot
of the play.
The
unusual inclusion of female impersonation-as-an-art-form
in a book show, combined with Wanzies
signature style of interweaving broad comedy with
serious subject matter, result in a most unusual bittersweet
comedy which will have audiences laughing through
their tears.
Together
For the First Time
Although each of the actors slated to appear in Ladies
has appeared on stage with up to all three of the
other cast members at various and separate times,
LADIES OF EOLA HEIGHTS will mark the first
time that popular radio personalities Michael Wanzie
& Doug (Andreas Got Two Boyfriends,
Two Men Trapped in Womens Bodies,
Trailer Trash Tabloid, Laundry & Bourbon,
Lemonade) Baaser will appear on stage
at the same time as both the accomplished Tommy Wooten
(The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told, The
8 Reindeer Monologues, Lone Star, Carolina
Moon, Lemonade) and Sam (Miss Sammy)
Singhaus.
Singhaus
appeared on Broadway in Seven Brides for Seven
Brothers and as a premier Cagelle in the original
cast of La Cage Au Folles.
