Welcome to the Monday Movie Review with WANZIE and DOUG! |
|
Tune in to Real Radio 104.1 FM in Orlando every Monday afternoon around
5:15 PM to hear the boys discuss the movies. Smack dab in the
middle of Orlando's longest-running, extremely popular talk-radio show The
Philips Phile, the guys dish out the pink triangles,
talk about
what they liked or disliked, and tell you whether or not you should waste
your money on a ticket to see the movie of the week. OK,
who are we kidding. They do get around to talking about movies,
but you actually never know just what is going to come out of their
mouths once they get going.
It's worth listening in just to see if
WANZIE can manage to keep the FCC from throwing down a fine or two for
something that he's blurted out. After all, once they hit that
delay or bleep button, it takes a while to build it back up.
You'll be on pins and needles with the next edition of the Monday Movie Review with WANZIE and DOUG.
And be sure to tune into The Philip's Phile on Real Radio 104.1 FM,
Monday thru Friday from 3-7 PM.

If you don't reside in the Central Florida area, you can tune in to the
show on the Internet. Check out
The Philips Phile online here!
You can also catch delayed presentations of the show on XM satellite
radio (Extreme XM - Channel 152). It airs the entire show
three-hours later (6-10 PM). You can catch the guys on XM at
approximately 8:10 PM. |

WANZIE
"The movie was good enough to snag the Oscar. So is
Jeff Bridges who was so perfectly understated. He did his
own signing. I don't want to hear country western music for
2 hours but Jeff Bridges was good. The whole thing is
real with a grit to it. I was all geared up to come in and
poo poo the big buzz, but it totally sucked me in. Maggie
Gyllenhaal was delightful."
|
 |
DOUG
"It opens with him being booked into a bowling alley.
It was really well done. When he got on stage you really
wanted to watch. There's just enough twists in it to make
you stay engaged and keep you off balance. There was
something missing, but I just don't know what it was. Jeff
Bridges was entertaining and good. Give him the Oscar now.
Maggie Gyllenhaal was great." |

WANZIE
(from a secret hidden bunker)
"I was afraid that if I didn't get on the air to warn people
to not see it, more people would waste money on it. Movie
gets too lost on artistic direction. If they were intending
to be campy, then they did a worse job than they thought.
Laughable. Everyone in that movie is a good performer, but
was horrible in that movie. What really pissed me off was
about 5 minutes into the film, everyone knows that the
father (Hopkins) was the werewolf. An hour and a half into,
here's the big buildup and you already let us know that at
the beginning what was going to happen. Bored to tears with
it. Think back to the original black and white, you were on
the edge of your seat and was such good storytelling.
Nothing about this made you frightened."

"Plaza Theater Downtown is a Great Theater. This was a
great experience. Seat was great.
Acting was terrible. Couldn't decide if they wanted it to be
a horror movie or campy. Terrible. The process of becoming
the Wolfman ... that was amazing. Then at the end, when
Anthony Hopkins, becomes Daddy Wolfman, I busted out
laughing." |

WANZIE
"I couldn't find one thing to criticize about it. It is
very interesting. A lot about her family dynamics. When it
ended you were sorry it was over. You just sit there in the
theater and think Oh I wanted more! It was exquisite. Goes
along at a nice pace. As much was with looks as with the
written word. I loved it. This is a perfect movie."
|
 |
DOUG
"Emily Blunt was great. She is up for an Oscar. Came
out of it learning things. Nice love story. It was very very
good. You learn a lot about history." |

WANZIE
"I loved the movie but I didn't like the last 12
minutes. I have talked to people who thought the ending was
perfect. Everyone in it is delightful. It's complicated
because all the kids are home for the graduation. She's
feeling guilty because she's doing what happened to her 10
years ago. Has a turn-on-the-dime ending. They make certain
people too likeable for the movie to end the way that it
did. There was as much said with looks and stares and glares
than there was with dialogue."
|
 |
DOUG
"I was physically exhausted and I fell asleep before
the ending. I liked it a lot. It is very funny. It is so
much deeper than the trailer. Meryl Streep plays a woman
who's been divorced for 10 years and goes to college to
visit her son and has an affair with her ex-husband, and now
she's the other woman. Steve Martin plays a real character.
Giving away the ending, she ruled for 80 years. " |

The Pink Triangles! |
|
It's all about the pink triangles
folks! Yes, every now and then the guys actually discuss
movies. And in doing so, they generally share what they liked or
didn't like about the movie, or even the movie-going experience.
We capture a few of those quotes here. But it really comes down
to the triangles. Here's what they represent: |
 |
Stinko. Not worth seeing under any
circumstances. |
  |
Below average. Not worth the cost of
admission plus the gas to get to the theater. Wait for it to come to
cable. |
   |
A competent, entertaining film. Nothing
extraordinary, but certainly worth the ticket price.
|
    |
Excellent.
Highly recommended. |
     |
A Classic! A must-see film that should absolutely
be experienced in a proper theater setting.
