A: I met Wanzie through mutual friend Rich Charron. They were doing a little show called Monorail Inferno (The second time it was produced, more than ten years ago at Theatre Downtown). They needed someone to play the role of Kyle. I was working with Rich at Disney at the time.Q: You are not exactly a musical theater staple in town, yet it's no secret you have a great voice. Where and how have you been employing your vocal talents all these years? A: I have been singing since I
was in
5th grade, following in the footsteps of my sister, doing musical
theater in high school. I always sang in high school, but it was
not
until I met WANZIE, that I ever got paid for it! My first professional
"gig" was when WANZIE cast me in the show he wrote and directed for
Capone's Dinner and Show. That lead to another play with WANZIE and
then a theater show where I eventually met performers of the Hollywood
Hi-tones at Universal Studios, where I was a part-time performer the
two years prior to the show being retired. During that same time I was
also employed as a singing waiter at Bergamo’s. There I worked with
Frank McClain, and together he I traveled abroad to appear at a
corporate entertainment show that WANZIE wrote and trouped to
Amsterdam. Eventually, after an acapella corporate gig, I got up the nerve to ask the producer if he ever needed singers for bands. He said yes and put me in a 14 piece group as one of four lead singers, without any rehearsal! Needless to say, they were all moving in unison while I was lost on stage! I still remember the comment from the band-leader to the producer about me ... "He sounded great, but looked a little nervous" to which I replied, "no shit!" Q: Have you ever appeared
on stage in drag, prior to doing so in PIGS? A: I did appear once in drag for a show I did in college. I was a male thief dressed as a woman for all of about 5 minutes. It took my sister about a minute to realize the woman on stage was me; slowly but surely my mom figured it out, then finally my dad who had been thinking I looked hot. I must say, I made one hell of a red head, at the time, and had great legs in pantyhose hose.Q: Other than appearing as a female character in part of the show, what has been the biggest challenge for you working on PIGS? A: My fear of dancing in public! I am extremely self conscious about dancing. I have great confidence when I am singing on stage and have performed with the band in front of more than ten thousand people, but when it comes to dancing, I feel totally exposed, mostly because I am tall and I have never been much in the movement department and have been made fun of by others about the way I move. Doing this show scared me when early on I suddenly realized it was going to be a dance-heavy show. I have, however been told, that I have risen to the occasion and can hold my own, and while I will never consider myself a dancer, I do feel a lot more confident then before!Q: Where are you originally from, and where did you attend school in Florida? A: Technically Virginia, but most of memories are of Connecticut. I was a Navy brat and bounced between here and CT. I spent my first three years of HS in CT then graduated from Orlando’s Oak Ridge HS in 1986.Q: When and why did you decide to go into Real Estate? A: I was tired of waiting tables and knew that I could not do it forever. Sometime in 1999, I was at the Bally’s on Kirkman and I met a guy who was talking about timeshare and how much he was making. I was already in sales to some degree, so I decided to get my Real Estate license, after which, Barry Miller hooked me up with realtor “she who must not be named” in Windermere, then I later joined CENTURY 21 and I have been working in the industry ever since! Q: Would you please tell
our subscribers about your recent, as well as your upcoming, television
appearances? A: I was approached by our musical director, and past client, John de Haas, about a show he and his partner were doing on HGTV called “My House is Worth What?” They had been accepted on the show already but had no idea who the REALTOR would be, so I asked if they might suggest me to the producer. I did an audition and they liked me. We taped our episode in October and it just appeared on HGTV in March. From the initial filming, I was recommended HGTV’s flagship show called HOUSE HUNTERS. We taped the show in January it is set to air inQ: Since you are currently considering local candidates for yet another TV appearance, would you please tell our subscribers about that, and let them know how to contact you should they be interested in being considered for the show? A: See above regarding house hunters! Interested parties need to be ready to buy and feel comfortable being filmed and personable on TV. Write to me directly at David@daviddorman.com!Q: Would you kindly tell our subscribers something about yourself they would be surprised to learn. A: I used to have a 29-inch waist when I was 20. I used to date women. I love to cook and nothing makes me happier then preparing a full gourmet meal for numerous people ... well, Scott makes me happy, then cooking! [EDITOR'S NOTE: Nice cover!] I once went to China for two months to open a Disney-wanna-be theme park. And I opened for 3 Dog Night in Jamaica, with the Volcano Joe band. Also, I scream like a girl when I get tickled.Q: Anything else you wish to say or share? A: If it were not for Wanzie, I would not be doing any of what I do today. He has helped make me a more daring and outgoing person. ![]() 7:50
