Tonight at Orlando Fringe Festival

Fringe opened last night. The madness has officially begun.

Get on down to Loch Haven Park. Buy your one-time-purchase $8 Fringe Entry Button (required to get in to all shows for which you purchase individual tickets). The eight bucks go to the festival, while 100% of the revenue from the individually-priced show tickets goes to the artists.

It's always best to plan ahead. You can purchase tickets online and choose to pick them up on site, or simply print them out yourself by visiting  www.OrlandoFringe.org

Directly below this paragraph we are pleased to showcase all the performances that are occurring at the Festival this very evening. Take note of the specified "Official WANZeGRAM Outing" designations. That's when you can be certain to be enjoying a specific show with like-minded subscriber friends, and WANZIE. Check out the A Note From Wanzie section of this gram for the complete listing of Official Outing show times.

My Two Cents:

DIRTY STUFF is CAROLINA MOON on Crack
By Kenny Howard

I had the privilege on Wednesday and Thursday of working on Jonny McGovern's Orlando Fringe offering - DIRTY STUFF - and I wanted to take a moment to tell the WANZeGRAM subscribers how much fun it was.  If you had the opportunity to see him back in January at the PH, please know this show is completely different! This is a play, not a standup routine.  Imagine CAROLINA MOON on crack. Jonny's self- written DIRTY STUFF is five characters played by one person; they dance and sing together, as well as fight and sashay; I've never seen a fake Chanel bag garner so much attention. Set on the streets and clubs of NYC, it is truly a joy to watch this man do his thing, and I hope that you'll come out to see it, too! The Official WANZeGRAM Outing for DIRTY STUFF is tonight's 11:35 PM Performance. All the show times for Stuff are listed below. Performances are in the PINK Venue.

A Note From Wanzie:

I am pleased to report that Kenny Howard, John deHaas, and I have completed the casting process for our October production of [title of show]. Meet our cast:

Melisa Mason will play Heidi

Kevin Kelly will play Jeff

 Rob Lott will play Hunter

Robyn Pedretti-Kelly will play Susan

John B. de Haas will play onstage accompanist Larry

Needless to say, we are very excited about our cast. We are grateful to everyone who came out to audition.

Kenny and I are busy applying for rights and perusing scripts for other projects for which we will again hold open auditions. We are very happy to be in a position at the Footlight Theatre where we are able to offer, not only opportunities, but fair compensation to non-equity actors in Orlando as we continue to present both original and established plays and musicals in a real theater, along with cocktail service.

Now as to more pressing matters.

Check out pages 12 & 13 of the current issue (May 20 -26) of the Orlando Weekly. Seth Kubersky and Lindy T. Shepherd have assembled a fun and funky spread entitled FRINGE EXPOSED. It's two pages of short tongue-in-cheek, tabloid-style articles highlighting little known Fringe news, Fringe scandals, and possible Fringe scandals in the making. Of particular note is a column on former Orlando Weekly Theater Critic-turned NYC resident-turned Fringe playwright - Steve Schneider. His show written for this year's Fringe - PEG O' KEEF FIXES THE WORLD - stars none other than one of Orlando's truly finest acting talents - Peg O'Keef

Schneider's first-ever Fringe offering is being staged by one of our area's finest in his field - Director John DiDonna. DiDonna apparently thought of the show concept ,which Schneider has fleshed out. All of the above is why PEG 0'KEEF FIXES THE WORLD has made it to the top of my not-to-be-missed list. I am declaring and inviting you to attend along with me, The Official WANZeGRAM Outing performance on Tuesday, May 25 at 10:30 PM.

Over on page 13 of the Weekly is a very cleverly written column entitled "Wanzie doesn't give a blank then gets childish" in which I am described as, among other things, "Bacchanalian-beyond belief." (I'd like to think that adjective is a testament to my overall  merry countenance, but something tells me Seth and Lindy looked up "drunk" in a thesaurus and came up with "Bacchanalian." Then to add insult to injury, they saw fit to add "beyond belief" to the moniker.) Anyway - it's an interesting read, if I do say so myself. You can pick up the free Orlando Weekly now on newsstands to see all the pictures and nifty layout, or you may simply click on the link provided here to read the Fringe Exposed articles online:

And this late-breaking news just in!  For those in the know: the now infamous WANZIE PRESENTS/PH FLAMINGO LOUNGE booth will once again be out on the Green Lawn of Fabulousness, thanks to some last minute finagling and contributions of funds and labor by Catherine Goodisson, Jeff Jones, Jeff Kern, Robert Currie, and other subscriber friends. Those who utilize the facility are encouraged to put a small contribution in the collection jar to help reimburse those friends who fronted the funds to make this happen.

Now get out there and FRINGE!
