Christmas Day, December 25, 2009 |
|
|
Greetings,
|
|
This edition of the
WANZeGRAM is totally abbreviated. The entire
WANZeGRAM staff is on semi-hiatus for the
holidays.
No, we didn't forget to
post the Short Takes, My Two Cents, We've
Got Mail, The World In Brief, or A Note From
Wanzie; we're just not including those
sections this week or next.
Any press information received during this
time will not appear until the WANZeGRAM of
Friday, January 8, 2010.
We thank you for indulging us as we take a
little break of sorts.
From Val, Gary, Jeff, Rich, & Wanzie, we
wish you the happiest of holiday seasons! |

THE BLUE LAGOON: The Musical - Direct
From New York |
Wanzie Presents is ever so pleased to
announce the Orlando debut of the show
Kenny Howard directed and presented at
the Producers Club in New York City this
past summer.
THE BLUE LAGOON: A Musical,
a subversively funny take on the classic
tale of shipwrecked teen cousins in
lust, will open on January 9, 2010 at
The Footlight Theatre in Orlando, for
two shows only.
For those of you
who may not know - this is no serious
fare. This is a complete comic spoof of
the movie of a similar title, and one of
the stars of the show is familiar to
many of you; Anthony Johnson, whom
Wanzie fell in love with vis-a-vis his
YouTube music videos - and subsequently
presented at the Footlight Theater last
year in ANTHONY JOHNSON: From
YouTube To YOU, will be
returning to splash and sing in the
on-stage pool, wearing only swimming
trunks.

THE BLUE LAGOON: A Musical is based
on Henry de Vere Stacpoole's
1908 novel, The Blue Lagoon: A
Romance, which has inspired
several stage and screen adaptations
over the years, including the
infamous 1980 film starring Brooke
Shields and Christopher Atkins. The
latest incarnation - featuring book,
music, and lyrics by
Jonathan Padget - premiered
at the 2007
Capital Fringe
Festival in Washington,
D.C., where it enjoyed a sold-out
run and an enthusiastic response
from audiences and critics. Nelson
Pressley of The Washington Post
praised the show for its "lovely
melodic themes" and its playful,
alternative style: "Two goofy
performers and an inflatable baby
pool as the lagoon in question - how
Fringe is that?"

The New York
premiere of "The Blue Lagoon: A Musical"
as part of the New York Cringe Fest
2009, featured Shayna Albertson
(2008 graduate of NYU Tisch School of
the Arts) as Emmeline, and
Anthony Johnson
(recently on the NETworks North American
and Asian tour of "Hairspray") as
Richard. The production, as directed by
Orlando's own Kenny Howard at The
Producers Club in Manhattan, garnered
multiple festival awards, including a
"Best Actor" award for Johnson.
It is that
award-winning New York production which
is being presented at the Parliament
House, lock, stock, and wading pool.
Shayna Albertson and Anthony Johnson are
being flown in from NYC to recreate
their roles is this funky little musical
send up of the film.
As presented at
the Footlight Theatre, the musical will
be preceded by the stand up comedy of
JEFF JONES. Jeff has
been making quite a name for himself,
not only with his monthly Mo
Laughs Comedy showcase, but
also opening for major acts at Hard Rock
Live!, and performing at such
prestigious events as Ocala Pride. But
seriously folks, if you have not yet had
the occasion to share in the wit and
wisdom of openly gay comedian Jeff
Jones, what better time to do so than on
this double bill:

A Note From Gary:
|
I am sending the Gram out a little
early this week as I know many of
you read the Gram from work
(shocking isn't it!).
I also want to point out that a few
seats still remain for the
Toxic Audio concert in
Sanford this
Saturday at the
Wayne Densch Performing Arts Center.
It is always a fun evening and has
become a Central Florida tradition.
 In
closing, Val and I want to
express our sincere appreciation to
Michael Wanzie for his friendship,
love, and support. Through Michael
Wanzie and Jeff Kern, we have been
introduced to many new friends this
past year and we can not express how
much all of them have come to mean
to us.
Merry Christmas to All and To All an
Apple Pucker shot or Four.
I'm NOT WANZIE and
That's All I Wrote!
